Fallen Angel: Chapter 1

Chapter 1: Falling

She struggled to open her emerald green eyes, her body ached all over and it felt like part of her skin and flesh had been torn off of her back harshly. Pain washed all over and burned her body like a raging wildfire. What has happened? Where was she, was why she hurt, and why did she feel so…cold?

She finally managed to gather whatever strength she had left and opened up her green eyes, which glowed in the darkness. She was lying down on her right side, facing the shore of a huge, beautiful lake, it was the middle of the night and the pale silver moonlight glistening beautifully over the dark water as the waves gently lapped at the shore, just inches from her snowy-white, icy-gray and dark gray fur.

She inhaled for a breath, but instead her body shook harshly and she suddenly burst into a coughing fit. When she stopped coughing, she suddenly felt and tasted a strange-tasting liquid in her jaws. Before she could wonder or even react, she coughed harshly again, this time spitting out a little bit of the liquid on to the muddy ground. It was blood; the dark crimson droplets glistening in the moonlight just like the water in the lake.

She shivered at the sight of the gruesome liquid, but it was mostly because it was quite cold, wherever she was. Thirst suddenly hit her now-dry mouth. She stretched her left paw out for the water, the frigid water lapping at her paws. She scooped up a small paw-full of the liquid and brought it to her jaws. She poured the cold water into her mouth, it felt like it freezer-burned her jaw and her body as she swallowed for a few spilt-moments.

She reached out again to get another paw-full of water, but this time when her paw reached the water, she felt something underneath the cold liquid. Something hard and metallic. Curious, she reached inside the water, shivering for a moment at the extreme cold, and used whatever strength she had left to pull it out.

It was some sort of staff. It was a skinny black pole with blue markings all around, a large diamond-shaped sapphire in the very middle that seemed to connect the staff together, two blue orbs with golden trimming—one on each end of the staff—and two light blue sickle blades—one on each end.

She blinked in confusion at she started at the wet staff, the blades and the water droplets on it glistening in the moonlight. She had never seen this staff before, but there was something familiar about it, she just couldn’t figure out what it was.

Suddenly fatigue kicked in and her mind and body started to shut themselves down. She dropped the staff, which landed at the lapping waves with a slight splash, cold water droplets splashing on to her fur.

She fought to stay awake, but she could hardly control it. She closed her emerald eyes just for a split-second…

The horrid scent of blood, rotting flesh and death flooded the entire space ship. The aqua fox and the cat fought with every bit of strength they had against the invaders. The fox swung her Aquatic Crystal Staff at the demon-like creature in front of her, just barely missing it by a few inches.

Her eyes shot open in fear. What on earth was that?! It felt like some sort of memory from a forgotten dream, but something deep down was telling her that it was much more than that. The fatigue grew stronger and she closed her eyes once more…

The demon growled, stretched out its black angel wings and hurled itself at the fox, the sudden attack forced the fox on to her back harshly. Its bloodstained jaws snapping at her throat swiftly and harshly.

Her eyes opened again, this time fear starting to shake her aching body. What was going on?! She closed her eyes one more time…

A scream or pain and fear suddenly erupted from the cat. The fox looked over to see there was thick crimson red liquid oozing off of the cat’s shoulder, which had a deep slash mark on it. The fox’s protective instincts kicked in and she kicked the demon off of her. She ran over towards the feline and helped her up. All of a sudden there was the sound of glass cracking and shattering. She turned around…

The fatigue finally took completely over before she could see what it was and she was out like a light. Countless upon countless questions raced in her mind: What happened to her? Who was that cat and that demon thing? How did she get here? And above all…who was she? She couldn’t remember single thing before waking up at the edge of this lake.

No memories, lost, cold and injured…She felt like she was falling…Falling in an endless abyss.
